18-year old Alex Walker’s rise through motor racing is continuing at quite the pace, with the Bedford speedster notching his first win on his GB4 Championship debut at the weekend.
His victory in the second race of the weekend at Snetterton was backed up with a runner-up spot in the opening race, plus a solid sixth place in the final race, (with the grid reversed) leaving Walker on 77 points after the opening weekend.
Alex has taken the step up from the National Formula Ford Championship to compete in faster cars at some of the UK’s most iconic motorsport venues.
Eight race wins and five additional podiums in the National Formula Ford Championship nearly saw him secure the title last season, and Walker will be hoping to go one further this time round with Elite Motorsport.
The GB4 Championship is composed of 24 rounds of racing, visiting venues such as Brands Hatch, Donington Park and Silverstone, where the British Formula One Grand Prix is held.
Walker takes seven-point lead to Oulton Park
Rounds four, five and six will take place at Oulton Park International in Cheshire with Alex taking a seven point lead into the event over Tom Mills, with race one winner Nikolas Taylor a further eight points back.
It’s still early days in the GB4 Championship, but Walker is naturally pleased with the start he has made in this new event:
“It was a good weekend. We took second, first and a sixth so it’s good points in the bag and looking good for the rest of the season. Hopefully we can carry this forward and get a bit more pace in the car for Oulton, but we’ll see.
“We didn’t have too much of a mind-set compared to any other race really, we came into the weekend hoping to get the best out of it and see where we were after testing.”
“We were quite quick after testing and ever since then we’ve been trying to fight at the front and get the best results possible.
“The reverse grid was a bit crazy but the main thing was to keep my nose clean and get as many points as possible, which is what we did.
“The weekend was run really well and it’s been really enjoyable. We go to Oulton Park now and I hope we can do more of the same.”
The competition takes a week’s break before returning on Easter weekend at Oulton Park, where Walker will hope to build on his slim lead before the teams move on to Silverstone at the beginning of May.
