Bedford Hospital has been allocated £50m in government funding to expand and enhance its urgent and emergency care facilities.
The development promises faster treatment times, modernised environments, and fewer overnight admissions thanks to enhanced diagnostic tools.

It will also address ongoing challenges associated with the ageing hospital estate and the area’s rapid population growth.
Labour MP for Bedford and Kempston, Mohammad Yasin, said: “I have consistently made the case for greater investment in Bedford Hospital as our population grows and demand on local services increases.”
He added that the funding injection aims to ensure the hospital can “serve Bedford and Kempston’s growing community for generations to come.”
Public event
Bedfordians are now being invited to help shape the future of the hospital’s emergency care at a public engagement event next month.
The drop-in session will take place on Monday, 16 November from 2pm to 7pm in the Committee Room at Bedford Hospital.
The redevelopment team is eager to gather early feedback from local people to incorporate into the final designs. To register your interest in attending, email redevelopment@bedsft.nhs.uk.
The £50m funding remains subject to final government approvals, which are anticipated in 2027.
