Bedfordians are urged to dust off their trainers on Saturday, 25 September and join the Trussell Trust’s race against hunger.
The anti-poverty run raises vital funds to end the need for foodbanks.
It’s suitable for complete beginners to experienced athletes who can walk, jog or run alongside family and friends or alone. The event features everything from a 5k jog to a marathon challenge.
Trussell Trust Events Engagement Manager, Kate Merrifield said: “Joining Race Against Hunger is a great challenge for everyone, whatever your fitness level, age, background or ability.
“You can run, jog, walk or do it in fancy dress, while raising vital funds to help stamp out hunger in the UK.
“Race Against Hunger is more than just a run. It’s a movement for change. It’s not right that any of us need to use a food bank.
That’s why we’re urging everyone in Bedford to put their best foot forward and join #TeamTrussell.”
Training guides and support will be provided, as will t-shirts, back signs, and armbands to wear on the day.
The Trussell Trust supports a nationwide network of more than 1,300 food bank centres, including seven in Bedford.
They provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, campaigning to create a future where no one needs a food bank to get by.
Trussell believe everyone should be able to afford life’s essentials and have the dignity of buying their own food.
The pandemic has increased the need for foodbanks throughout the UK. According to Trussell Trust research, approximately one million people have said they will probably need to use a foodbank when Universal Credit is cut in October.
By signing up for the Race Against Hunger, Bedfordians can help end the need for UK food banks. With their support, the charity hopes to create long-term change and build a hunger free future.
Kate said: “Race Against Hunger is a great way to get involved and, after a tough year for many, it’s time for change – together, we can create a fairer, more just society.”
