Bedford Town’s winning streak in the league is over after a 2-0 defeat at Banbury United in Oxfordshire on Tuesday night (15 October).
Goals in either half from Jaanai Gordon and Adriel George condemned the Eagles to their first defeat in Southern League Premier Central since their 2-1 loss at Harborough on 24th August.

Bedford Town started the evening top of the league after Saturday’s remarkable comeback against Stamford, and the good time feeling continued as manager, Lee Bircham extended his contract at The Eyrie by two and a half years on Sunday.

Gordon stunner for Banbury
Tuesday night however, did not go to plan.
Banbury began the game better, and their persistence was rewarded thanks to a beautiful strike from Jaanai Gordon.
Harry Reilly showed some neat footwork to beat three Eagles defenders before handing over the duties to Gordon who stepped inside an unleashed a rocket into the top corner.
The home side could have been two up moments later, but AJ George opted to square for Reilly instead of taking it on himself, with Reilly spurning the opportunity.
Chances for Bedford were restricted to Sam Brown’s dangerous long throw-ins, but they couldn’t find an equaliser and when AJ George finally got another opportunity, he made no mistake in doubling Banbury’s lead, giving them a 2-0 win come the final whistle.
Bedford Town are still top, one point ahead of Kettering Town, although they do have two games in hand over Lee Bircham’s men and there are just four points separating first from tenth in what is a congested division.
The Eagles return to The Eyrie on Saturday (19 October) looking to bounce back to winning ways as they host Barwell. That game kicks off at 3pm and you can purchase your tickets here.
