A number of Bedford students are celebrating individual and group sporting success after excelling in a range of disciplines from horse riding to cross country running.

Students from three local schools are proudly representing not only their school but town, county and even country.

The boys and girls cross country teams of Bedford Modern raced to achieve first and third position respectively at the Bedfordia Cross Country Race on 17 January.

There was individual success too for Josh Jeganathan of Bedford School who smashed his way through to take the U16 County Champion title at the Bedfordshire County Table Tennis Competition held on 12 January.

Aside from achieving sporting excellence, Suzie was recognised for her contribution to voluntary services as part of Endurance GB.

Bedford’s youngsters are clearly leading the way with these recent achievements with more to surely follow.

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
