Bedford Radio is throwing open its studio doors next month, inviting listeners to see how the station runs and meet the volunteers who keep local radio on air.

As part of Community Radio Week, the station will host an open day on Saturday, 07 February 2026, from 10am to 3pm, offering residents a behind-the-scenes look at Bedford’s not-for-profit local radio service.

Throughout the day there will be live broadcasts, interviews and interactive sessions to show how programmes are put together and how community radio supports local news, culture and events.

Visitors will also have the chance to sit in on shows, see the studios in action and find out how to get involved.

Meet the team

The open day will include interviews with local voices, workshops and opportunities for people to meet some of the presenters and volunteers who run the station.

Station manager, Rebecca Steers, said: “We want Bedford Radio to be part of the heart of the local community. Our studios are based in the town, and we want to invite people to get involved, have a look and support what we do.

The station wouldn’t be possible without all its volunteers, all passionate about Bedford and shouting about all that’s great about the town.”

Celebrating community radio

Community Radio Week is a nationwide initiative celebrating volunteer-run local stations across the UK.

These stations are rooted in their communities, providing a platform for local stories, emerging talent and underrepresented voices that can be missed by larger broadcasters.

Bedford Radio says the open day is not just about showing how the station works, but also about encouraging more people to connect with it – whether by tuning in, attending events, or volunteering behind the scenes or on air.

The station hopes the event will strengthen its relationship with listeners and highlight the positive role community radio plays in Bedford’s cultural life.

Further details about the open day are available on their website.
