Two university friends, who went on to set up their own individual opticians in Bedford, have decided to merge their businesses.

Simon Donne Opticians and Simon Browning Optometrist joined forces earlier this week (15 July) to become Donne and Browning Opticians and Hearing Care.

They new business took over Simon’s former premises in the Old Arcade after an extensive refurb to give the place a new look and install state-of-the-art retinal scanning equipment and designer brand glasses.

The two Simons met and became friends at City, University of London in 1978, and have since established two well-respected practices in Bedford.

Simon Browning, optometrist and practice owner, said: “This merger marks an incredibly exciting time for both our team and Bedford as a whole.”

Meanwhile, Simon Donne, Optometrist and Contact Lens Optician, added: “We are incredibly excited to be joining up with Simon’s team and welcoming the dedicated patient base that his practice has fostered over the years.”

All patient records from Simon Browning Optometrist’s, including contact lens details and supply, have been transferred to the new premises.

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.
