The recruitment process for a new headteacher at Bedford Greenacre Independent School (BGI) has started following news that Principal Ian Daniel will retire in August 2027.
Mr Daniel has served as principal for the past 17 years and has worked for the school for 38 years.
New leadership
Steve Williamson, the chair of governors, is leading the recruitment process, with the school hoping to announce the new postholder after the Christmas holiday period.
Mr Williamson thanked Mr Daniel for his commitment to the school and said more will be shared about his contribution in the coming months.
School growth
BGI moved to a new site on Manton Lane in January 2025, having become fully co-educational after a merger between Rushmoor and St Andrew’s Schools overseen by Mr Daniel.

Mr Daniel will be given the honorary title of Emeritus Principal upon his retirement, and he fully intends to maintain links with the school community to help ensure continuity.

Reflecting on his decision, Mr Daniel said: “I feel the time is now right both personally and professionally for me to hand over the leadership reins to somebody new, who will find the school in a very strong position to steer.
“Indeed, this year, we’ve had the best admissions to date.
“I have been very fortunate to work alongside such an excellent team of staff, governors and trustees for so many years.
“It has been the privilege of my lifetime to lead the school, and I would like to thank our families, past and present, for their loyalty and support.
“I will miss the pupils and wider school community enormously, but I will stay in touch.”
