Bedford children’s author and illustrator David Litchfield has been helping young writers develop their own short stories on a visit to Castle Newnham School this week.

Year 3 pupils at the school are studying his book ‘Lights on Cotton Rock’ and are creating their own short stories based on this and David’s other books.

A spokesperson for the school said the children loved his visit and were amazed at how he got his inspiration and asked lots of questions.

The multi-award-winning illustrator and author, David, said: “It was great chatting to the kids at Castle Newnham about my books. I got to run a few sessions around story ideas, drawing characters and I answered a lot of great questions.

“It was really nice to be able to visit their school and talk about what I do.”

David first started to draw when he was very young, creating Star Wars and Indiana Jones mash-up comics for his older brother and sister.

Since then, his work has appeared in magazines, newspapers, books and on T-shirts and in exhibitions in both solo and group shows in the U.K, Europe and America.

His other works include, ‘The Bear & The Piano’ ‘Grandad’s Secret Giant’ ‘The Bear, The Piano, The Dog & The Fiddle’ and ‘The Bear, The Piano & Little Bear’s Concert’

Now more than ever, we need your help to fund the Bedford Independent’s quality journalism that serves our community...

We choose to champion editorial independence, meaning we report the facts without bias and can stand up to those in power when we believe it’s needed.

We can give a voice to people in our community whose voices may otherwise not be heard. And we don’t have a paywall, so everyone can read the stories we publish for free.

But in this time of crisis, many news organisations all over the world are facing existential threat, with advertising revenues plummeting. We’re no different.

We work hard every day to bring you news, commentary, entertainment and announcements from across Bedford. We hope that, with your help, we’ll be able to continue this for many years to come.
