Bedford residents are urged to have unused bikes at the ready to help Ukrainian families get out and about.
Bedford Borough Council are seeking used bike donations to help families get to work, school and explore the borough.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “The support and generosity Bedford Borough residents have already shown to guests from Ukraine has been incredible and I have no doubt people will be more than happy to help out again if they can.
“If you have a bike at home, or at the back of your garage, that could do with a new home, please consider donating it. Your donated bikes will help people to explore our Borough, socialise with family and newly made friends, and stay active during the summer months.”
Over 200 Ukrainian’s have been welcomed to Bedford Borough since the start of the conflict.
The council are looking for bikes of all shapes and sizes. Ladies bikes are particularly needed.
If you have a bike you no longer use, that’s in reasonable condition, you can drop it off at the following collection points:
- Thursday 4 August, 10am to 4pm
Priory Marina (near Beefeater)
Barkers Lane, Bedford MK41 9DJ
- Wednesday 24 August, 10am to 4pm

Volunteers will make adjustments, pump up the tyres and bring the bicycles back to life.
