Bedford Blues’ fixture against Doncaster Knights on New Year’s Day has been postponed due to “a number of front row injuries and Covid-19 cases in the Bedford squad”.
After a wonderful victory against Jersey Reds on Boxing Day, Mike Rayer would have been keen for his side to build on the momentum in Yorkshire but, like many other Championship sides, Bedford’s progress has been halted by the spread of Covid-19.
The game was due to kick off at 14:30 on New Year’s Day, but the challenge is now on to find a spare date both sides can fulfil before the end of the season.
This comes after two Championship games were postponed last weekend, with Cornish Pirates’ game at leaders Ealing already postponed this weekend.
The Pirates face a larger challenge, with their last two games postponed, with the RFU having to potentially extend the season to complete what has been a gripping campaign so far.
The Blues will also have to sit out another free weekend next week, with their next scheduled fixture at home to Ampthill on 15th January in the next instalment of the Battle of Bedfordshire.
