A section of Ampthill Road near the site of Friday’s fatal train collision south of Bedford is set to remain closed until at least Sunday, 28 June, as recovery and investigation work continues.
Bedford Borough Council has issued an emergency temporary road closure notice affecting Ampthill Road (B530) between the Interchange Way roundabout and Manor Road, Kempston Hardwick.
The closure came into force on Sunday, 22 June, and is expected to remain in place 24 hours a day until 28 June.

The council said the closure is required to facilitate work related to the incident and to ensure the safety of both the public and the workforce.
The road runs close to the railway line where two East Midlands Railway trains collided near Elstow on Friday evening. The crash claimed the life of train driver Shaun Burton, 60, and left dozens of passengers injured.
Recovery operation
Network Rail has already warned that a complex recovery operation is underway, involving specialist cranes and engineering teams working to remove damaged rolling stock, assess infrastructure damage and carry out repairs before services can resume.

The emergency road closure is likely to support access for recovery vehicles and investigators working at the scene.
Diversions are being signposted locally.
British Transport Police, the Rail Accident Investigation Branch and rail industry specialists continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
