A team whose work has helped more than 100,000 patients access the right care while improving ambulance availability across Bedford Borough and the East of England has been named Clinical Team of the Year.

The Clinical Assessment Service (CAS) received the top honour at the East of England Ambulance Service’s annual Stars of EEAST Awards.

Triage success

By safely supporting more patients through telephone assessment, the team has helped more people receive timely advice and treatment.

This approach avoids the need for an ambulance response or hospital attendance where appropriate.

During the last 12 months, CAS clinically assessed more than 101,000 patients, including over 45,000 Category 2 patients.

Team effort

Richard Smith, clinical lead for the Clinical Assessment Service, said: “It’s an absolute honour on behalf of the team to accept the award for clinical team of the year.

“It’s been a massive effort across all our clinical teams, our non-clinical teams and all our support services to achieve what we have.

“Every day the team is preventing unnecessary ambulance responses and protecting our sickest patients.

“Through dedication, professionalism and collaboration, CAS continues to make a lasting difference to patients and colleagues across the East of England.”
