A1 southbound road closure latest

Motorists are advised that the A1 in Bedfordshire is closed southbound between the A421 (Black Cat Roundabout) and the A603 (near Sandy) due to a burst water main in the central reservation.

They are recommending allowing an additional half an hour for journey times.

Highways England and Anglian Water are in attendance and working to repair the damaged pipe and clear the water which has flooded a significant part of the carriageway.

Traffic is being diverted via the ‘Hollow (Yellow) Diamond’ diversion symbol.

Advice from Highways England is as follows:

Exit the A1 at Black Cat Roundabout and join the A421 southbound (Great Barford Bypass). Continue until the roundabout with the A603 (Cardington Cross Roundabout) and take the first exit onto the A603. Continue on the A603 through Willington and Moggerhanger and rejoin the A1 southbound at Sandy.

Further incident information is available from Highways England www.trafficengland.com website and travel apps, or via our @HighwaysEAST regional Twitter feed.
