Bedfordians heading off on holiday via Luton Airport this August can drop their airport costs down to zero by catching a free bus directly to the terminal.
Under a month-long scheme funded by London Luton Airport (LLA), adult passengers travelling to and from the airport between 1 and 31 August 2026 can ride free on participating bus services simply by showing a valid flight boarding pass to the driver.
Free travel
The scheme aligns with the Department for Transport’s national initiative offering free summer bus travel for children aged 5 to 15 in England, allowing entire families to reach the airport at no cost.
London Luton Airport chief executive officer Alberto Martin said the project demonstrates a commitment to “reinvesting in transport options that benefit both our passengers and the communities we serve.”
He added that encouraging public transport helps people to “save money, reduce congestion and enjoy a simple and friendly journey” as the airport prepares for its busiest summer season.
Local routes
The free travel offer applies to any stop on designated services, including the Stagecoach MK1 route which connects Bedford, Elstow, Wixams, Clophill, Silsoe and Barton-Le-Clay directly to the airport.
Stagecoach East managing director Darren Roe described the bus as a “quick and easy way to get to the airport” and an “ideal alternative to taxi, train, Uber, or even parking.”
Arriva Midlands commercial director Toby France added that the scheme provides families an opportunity to “save money on their way to the airport, leave the car at home and start their holiday.”

Train discounts
For those travelling by rail, East Midlands Railway is offering a £20 family ticket for journeys between London St Pancras and the airport on the Luton Airport Express.
Valid for two adults and up to four children, the rail ticket also covers the Luton DART connection directly to the terminal front.
