Plans to build a new £3.4million GP surgery in Great Barford have been approved by Bedford Borough Council’s executive.
The proposed development would see the former Great Barford Lower School on Silver Street demolished to make way for a larger modern surgery, directly opposite the village’s existing practice.
The new facility will include car parking and aims to meet the needs of both current and future residents.
The total cost of the scheme is expected to be £3,427,647. Of this, £1.9m will be provided by the Council, subject to an additional £1.017m of Section 106 funding secured from the 500-home Millfield End housing development.
To avoid delays, the executive also agreed to release £470,000 before the Section 106 funding is confirmed. This will cover the costs of planning applications, demolition, and associated preparatory works.
Final approval will depend on agreement from the Integrated Care Board (ICB) following engagement with patients, and the GP practice signing a new lease for the building.
