A 17-year-old boy has been arrested following an alleged knife assault at Bedford River Festival on Saturday evening.

At around 9pm a man and woman were attacked in the dance stage area at Russell Park with what was believed to be a knife.

Officers responded and the 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He was taken into police custody for questioning and later bailed.

Both victims were taken to hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Detective Constable Zoe Keepin, from Bedfordshire Police, said: “This was a concerning incident and we acted promptly to make this arrest. Violence such as this isn’t welcome in our communities and won’t be tolerated.”

The incident took place in a busy area at the festival and police would like to speak to witnesses. Please call 101 or use the Bedfordshire Police online reporting centre and quote reference 40/42642/22.
