A 150-mile cycle will take place this weekend with a team of medics, lawyers and accountants raising funds and awareness for skin cancer and Bedford Hospital Charity & Friends.

The challenge over the 10 and 11 September, will see the cyclists ride from Warrington to Bedford in under 36 hours to raise money for the cause.

One in two people are diagnosed with cancer and 40% of these cancers can be treated with preventative action.

The three main types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma which can be easy to miss or dismissed as something else.

Professor Sandip Hindocha who organised the event hopes to spread awareness for skin cancer and encourage people to recognise the first signs.

“They can be painless, and you might think that it could be a little spot that will go away, you forget about it or it’s in a place you don’t really look at until it starts to ulcerate and bleed…

“a lot of people don’t really know when something on the skin is actually a problem,” he said.

Lawyer Danny Hudson, who is joining the cycle added, “If you’ve got a lump if you’ve got a bump don’t be scared of going to the doctor and go out get it checked out…

“It’s just about taking 5 minutes and checking yourself out.”

To donate to the cycling challenge, you can go to their fundraising page, or donate directly to Bedford Charity & Friends.
